BEST BET: Laughs laud Pie Day
by staff

The Van Gogh-Goghs, a sketch comedy group based in Chapel Hill, will pay a late tribute to National Pie Day Monday at 9:30 p.m. at The Cave on Franklin Street, also in Chapel Hill.

The show features 12 brand-new, never-before seen sketches that are less than two months old. In a news release group member Galen Black said the new pieces grew out of the group's self imposed two-month hiatus.

"We took off December and most of January to write and work on some of the ideas we'd come up with over the past few months," Black said. "The result is an all-new show with none of our old standbys.

Group member Jason Torchinsky said the show at the Cave is the Van Gogh-Goghs way of honoring National Pie Day on Jan. 23. "Never let it be said that the Van Gogh-Goghs have forgotten those who fought and died so that we could have pie."

Meanwhile in an attempt to scuttle a nasty rumor that the group is "not just a bunch of computer nerds with too much time on our hands," the Van Gogh Goghs announced the opening of their World Wide Web site.
