While I was
visiting my mom and dad a few weeks ago I found one of my
old toys. I had forgotten about the GI Joe doll my parents
had bought for me. I found the doll sitting in an alley,
bumming for change. I tried to walk by and not make eye
contact, but I was recognized.
"Is that
you. Sparky?" the doll said.
"Hey,
Joe! How things going?"
"How do
you think things are going?"
"I don't
know. You look good!"
"Oh, shut
up!!!! I don't look good!"
"Sure
you do!"
"You shaved
my head, you stabbed me with darts, you burned me with a
magnifying glass, and you tore my arms off at the shoulders
and ripped my legs off at the knees. I look like a wreck!"
"I also
left you stuck in a tree for a week and crushed you with
a pile of bricks."
There was a
brief silence.
"Those
were good times, Sparky. Sure is good to see you."
"Yeah.
I'll see you around Joe!"
I threw him
two bucks in change and walked away. I didn't look back,
I didn't want him to see me cry.
